Prescriptions

Repeat Prescriptions

For repeat prescriptions please allow up to three workings days (72 hours) from the day of request for this to be processed and sent to your pharmacy.

You can order your Repeat Prescriptions in the following ways:

  • Through your Online Access either via the NHS App or use our contact us Link.
  • Emailing our Prescribing Team on bsmp.prescription@nhs.net
  • A Pharmacy can order on your behalf this has been agreed mutually.

We NO LONGER take Requests for Repeat Medication or Acute Requests over the telephone (unless mutually agreed, and this will be stated on your record)

We allow patients to request medication 10 days before it it due to be issued, for controlled drugs this window is only 7 days.

Prescriptions for your holiday

If you would like to request medication for a holiday abroad, we will need to know the date you are leaving the country and the date of your return. We can only legally issue up to 3 months worth of medication. If you require any more than this you will need to locate this from the destination you are going too.

Holidays in England

If you run out of medication or require additional medication during your stay within England, we can send this to a pharmacy of your choice, to do this we will need the post code of the pharmacy you would like your medication to be sent. Please see above for the max amount of medication that can be issued.

Medication Reviews

If you need a medication review, we will contact you via SMS and ask for you to book this through our reception team, or send you a link to self book an appointment with our clinical pharmacist. If your medication is not visible on your app, there is a custom request box that you can type the items you need and we will still be able to process this request.

Prescription Charges and Exemption

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

NHS charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25
  • A 12 month PPC for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) only: £19.30

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 11 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. (Pre-payment certificate)

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
