Design Science News - Getting the most out of online group clinics

Dr Durant recently ran a successful NHS Health Check Drop In Clinic at Fearon Hall. A roving ambulance was situated outside and our phlebotomist Lisa was taking bloods all day. The health information stalls present for this included Age Uk, Charnwood Mental Health Team, youth mental health services and so much more… So many people attended this clinic, thank you for making this a success. Bridge Street are considering another health check drop in clinic, the date will be in September, please keep your eyes peeled for further information.

The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your overall health. It can tell you whether you’re at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as:

During the check-up you’ll discuss how to reduce your risk of these conditions.

The check is for people who are aged 40 to 74 who do not have any of the following pre-existing conditions:

  • heart disease
  • chronic kidney disease
  • diabetes
  • high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • atrial fibrillation
  • transient ischaemic attack
  • inherited high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia)
  • heart failure
  • peripheral arterial disease
  • stroke
  • currently being prescribed statins to lower cholesterol
  • previous checks have found that you have a 20% or higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease over the next 10 years

You should have regular check-ups if you have one of these conditions. Your care team will be able to give you more information about this.

Non Diabetic-Hyperglycaemia

Non-diabetic hyperglycaemia (NDH), also known as pre-diabetes or impaired glucose regulation, is a condition where blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. People with NDH are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

A doctor can diagnose NDH by checking HbA1c levels, which should be above 41 mmol/mol but below the diabetes threshold of 48 mmol/mol. The doctor may also recommend a weight check to measure body mass index (BMI) and an annual blood test.
Dr Durant is going to be running 6 group clinics, these will be held at Fearon Hall starting on Tuesday 10th September 2024 from 09.00am – 10.00am for 6 weeks. We will be inviting all patients due for a review, to attend 1 group session, this will cover improving your lifestyle and diabetes prevention. All patients will need to attend the surgery for a blood test prior to their group session. We have scheduled an additional blood clinic for this purpose on the 4th September 2024. Please consider attending as the clinics will contain valuable information on causes and how to manage any future conditions.
