RSV Symptoms & Treatment | Advocate Health Care

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of coughs and colds. It usually gets better by itself, but it can be serious for some babies and older adults.

RSV vaccination from September 2024

A vaccine to help protect against RSV will be available on the NHS from 1 September 2024.

You’ll be able to get the vaccine if:

  • you’re aged 75 to 79
  • you’re 28 weeks pregnant or more – this will help protect your baby for the first few months after they’re born

If you’re aged 75 to 79, your GP surgery will contact you about getting vaccinated. Please wait to be contacted.

From September, you can speak to your maternity service or GP surgery about getting your RSV vaccination if you’re 28 weeks pregnant or more.

Bridge Street Medical Practice will be running a clinic for our patients aged between 75 – 79 on Saturday 28th September, we will be sending out correspondence to our eligible patients shortly. Please look out for further information.

Flu Season 2024 at Bridge Street Medical Practice will commence on Thursday 3rd October 2024.

We will be opening an afternoon clinic on Thursday 3rd October, Friday 4th October 2024, Thursday 10th October 2024 and Friday 11th October 2024.

We will also be running our usual Saturday clinics on Saturday 5th October 2024 and Saturday 12th October 2024.

We will be sending out information followed by booking links for these clinics shortly.

Most eligible adults will be able to get the flu vaccine from 3 October 2024.

This may be later than you’ve had the vaccine before, but it means you’ll have the best protection when flu is most widespread.

Some people may have their vaccination from September 2024, including if:

  • you’re pregnant (especially if you’re near to your due date) – it’s important to get vaccinated before giving birth to help protect yourself and your baby for the first few months of their life
  • you’re due to have treatment that will weaken your immune system (such as chemotherapy) – the vaccine may be given before treatment starts because it works better if given when your immune system is stronger

Speak to your GP for advice if you think you need to have the vaccine earlier than October.
